ACSI Vs Stearns

I find this case incredibly interesting… From the looks of it, a coalition of private christian schools are suing the UC (University of California) system for not accepting credit for certain classes taught in these schools. Not all of the classes in question are science based, but that’s where the heart of the argument is.
I guess a lot of the shit-stirring is in reference to a series of textbooks by Bob Jones Univesity. According to the article on The Panda’s Thumb, these textbooks are riddled with “Intelligent Design” nonsense.
A solid “DUH” comes to mind while reading the details of the case. Do these people seriously expect the UC system to bless, for lack of a better word, science classes that refer to tripe you’re likely to hear Kent Hovnid sling?…
…that’s just foolish. No school in their right mind would allow that.
The reason schools accept / deny credit is based on the topics covered. If the christian schools aren’t covering “questionable” topics in elementry biology, how are these students to be expected to grasp the coursework they’re wanting to take? It’s not that private school students aren’t bright. Statistically, they’re much smarter than your average public school student. However, professors teach this stuff as if they’ve seen at least some of it before. Allowing students into a class with handicaps of that degree is a waste of everyone’s time.
I’m waiting in angst to see these silly charges dropped.
