For the record, saying anything remotely similar to: “…[such and such album] was the most important album of [buzzword time-frame]…” is a dead giveaway that someone has no idea what they’re talking about.

I’ve run into a lot of shitty music in Sacramento. So much in fact, that I usually find myself overlooking the area in favor of spending a weekend in the bay. Out of a complete stroke of luck, I caught The Refinery at a small dive bar on the far side of midtown. After the show, I was shocked to find out that they were locals. With what I’ve seen of Sacramento, if I were grading on a curve, they’d be the guys that nobody would want in the class.
I found some iTunes -> html software today. I have more than my fair share of bad music, so you should tell me about it. I’m sure you’re going to regardless of my invitation to do so.
The Amateurs‘ Hope For the Best, Expect the Worst was released almost entirely independently, making it nearly impossible to satisfy my “Here, and NOW!” impulses. Luckily for me, they made it available on iTunes. After a quick transaction, download, and burn; I was able to get down to some serious listening.
I make it a rule to avoid writing a review about a record I’ve only heard once. That was no problem in this case. Hope For the Best, Expect the Worst falls just short of 24 minutes in length. After two commutes to work, I practically knew all of the words.
